The Computer Aided Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory approaches the study of the relationship between applied physiological load and biomechanical characteristics of the Spine and Lower Extremity Joints with the help of three-dimensional Finite Element Models. Biomechanical models of the cervical and lumbar spines are being developed using CT scans of normal subjects. These models are being used to understand the change in biomechanical functions of spinal segments due to normal aging process as well as due to various surgical treatments.
